The Woman Who Started It All

A blog feature about our owner Emmy

The owner of Blush Bridal, Emmy Gorman has changed the world of bridal in the Midwest over the last decade. After her own lack-luster wedding gown shopping experience in 2006, she decided to do something to change how brides found their dream gown.  She believed every bride should have an intimate and unique gown shopping experience. She believed it should be celebrated as a life moment, and not like a regular shopping transaction.

In 2012 she opened the doors of Blush in a small shop on South 56th here in Lincoln. The store had 3 small dressing areas that saw so many “Yes!” moments and much celebration. By 2019 Blush Bridal was quickly outgrowing the smaller store, and needed to expand. Blush Bridal moved into a new storefront off 16th and Old Cheney. Blush was able to expand their gown and accessory collections, including expanding their plus size inventory to fulfill 40% of their gowns. The newer store includes 4 large dressing rooms as well as an additional bridal suite perfect for upgraded appointments and extra guests.

During the pandemic and shut down, Blush Bridal still served brides by offering virtual appointments and at-home try ons. Brides could still have their special “Yes!” moments while remaining safe at home with their loved ones. This is just one example of how Emmy has always found new and innovative ways to serve brides. The core of Blush Bridal is the experience offered and that each bride deserves a unique and memorable moment.

In the Summer of 2021, Emmy launched Blush Bridal Boutique’s own private collection of gowns, Sweet Nothings. Sweet Nothings is exclusive to Blush, and designed/hand-picked by Emmy and the staff. Offering Sweet Nothings has allowed brides to customize their wedding gowns to truly match their unique style.

In the Spring of 2022, Emmy will be opening the doors to the sister store of Blush. Refined Bridal Co will be nestled in the heart of downtown Hickman and will allow Emmy and her team to impact more brides than ever. Refined Bridal Co will carry a wide stock of gowns available to purchase and take home the same day! Brides won’t have to wait to take their gown home or worry about wedding timelines. Emmy and Blush as an organization believe brides who have quicker wear dates, or can’t get a dress ordered in time, still deserve the best gown shopping experience.

Over the last decade as a business owner, Emmy has empowered thousands of women in our community. Through employment, through fundraising and community events, and by providing brides with life moments. Emmy continues to find new ways to impact the community positively and change how people view the bridal industry. She has always said that every bridal store has beautiful gowns, but we (at Blush and Refined) have the experience.

While being a business owner and leader, she is also a wife and busy mom of two boys. She loves to garden, travel and spend time with friends. In her words “Mostly I enjoy planting things and watching them grow, whether flowers in planters, employees in the workplace, veggies in the garden, or businesses in new communities. I love placing little seeds, sitting back and watching them blossom.”
