Where To Start With Wedding Planning

Just a few tips to get you started on planning the best day!

You may find yourself with something new and sparkly on your left hand….or maybe you’ve had that accessory for awhile and are in no rush to plan your big day. Whether you have a quick engagement or a longer one, we have some helpful tips for starting to plan your wedding!

Our first piece of advice is to sit down with your partner and think about the big picture. What do you envision your big day to be? Where do you see yourself getting married? Do you want a big wedding and large celebration, or small intimate gathering with your closest loved ones? Figuring out these details will help you execute wedding planning by ensuring you stay on track and that your vision comes to life!

Next up, you will want to get your big vendors/to-do list items out of the way, these include venue, photographer/videographer and your wedding gown. Venues book out fairly far in advance so if you have a specific date that you are wanting, be sure to make those phone calls first. If you have a particular photographer whose style you adore, nail them down next. Photos and video last forever even when your own memory may fade over the years so it’s super important to choose a photographer whose shooting style resonates with you and your partner.

The next big thing is your wedding dress. We always recommend brides shop for their wedding dress 9-12 months prior to the wedding date (or even before!). The reason we suggest this to our brides is because gowns can take 6-8 months to be made/shipped. Giving yourself 9-12 months also allows you to have a few months (2-3) to have any alterations done and pick out your wedding day accessories. You will never regret giving yourself more time when it comes to choosing the gown you will marry the love of your life in.

Once you’ve got the big details planned you can focus on other things like florals, centerpieces, what your wedding party will wear and planning a honeymoon! Wedding planning does not have to be stressful and our biggest piece of advice is to give yourself enough time. Your big day will approach fast no matter what, and goes by so quickly so give yourself time to get all the little details in place! At the end of it all, you will be married to the love of your life and start your journey together as husband and wife!
